8 Simple Things You Can Do About Climate Change

Climate change is becoming a real challenge for all the living organisms out there. But, the matter of fact is that not everyone tends to understand climate change or do anything because they think that collective efforts can help climate change get better and then the world would be able to fight it off. We offer 8 simple, low-cost things that add up for those of you resolving to do your part to reduce your emissions and engage more sustainably with the planet and those who live here. Consider the following “resolutions:”

Inefficient bulbs should be replaced.

The University of California’s Million LED Challenge, inspired by research conducted by the California Lighting Technology Center at UC Davis, allows UC students, staff, and faculty to order high-quality LED bulbs at a reduced cost. There are several options on the market for everyone else.

Today, walk or bike somewhere you’d normally drive.

Even parking your car and riding your bike the rest of the way to your destination can help you save fossil fuels and get some exercise in. According to a 2015 study by the Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Davis, a significant global increase in bicycling could reduce urban transportation emissions by up to 10% by 2050.

Read!

Learn how to tell the difference between legitimate news sources and special-interest propaganda. This will assist you in ensuring that your understanding of climate change and other contentious scientific issues is founded on peer-reviewed research. In a 2017 BioScience study, UC Davis professor Eric Post and colleagues provide advice on how to do so.

Be inventive.

Climate action entails more than just energy efficiency and carbon sequestration. Exploring ideas and feelings about the changing world through song, visual arts, writing, and other forms of expression can be a powerful way to share your unique perspective and help people understand climate change from a different perspective.

Conserve water.

Because water requires energy to produce, the more water you save, the more energy you save. The UC Davis Center for Water and Energy Efficiency discovered that during California’s drought, from June 2015 to April 2016, water conservation saved 1,830 gigatonnes of electricity—enough to power 274,000 homes per year, with greenhouse gas savings equivalent to removing 110,000 cars from the road for a year. Their findings were covered in the Los Angeles Times.

Take good care of yourself.

Examine your personal care products again. NOAA-led research, which included UC Davis scientists, discovered that volatile chemical products found in shampoo, cleaning products, and paint contribute as much to urban air pollution as car tailpipe emissions.

Reduce the amount of plastic you use.

When possible, use alternatives to plastic, and properly dispose of the plastic you do use to keep it out of our oceans and other waterways. Plastic has become really dangerous for the lives of animals, birds, and humans. It is not only affecting humans but it is also affecting the water life and disrupting the environment as it is not easily biodegradable.
